Overview: SLOrktastic reflections
This assignment asks you to reflect on the SLOrktastic Chamber Music Concert, not only on your group's performance, but also on the quality of the concert as a whole.
Instructions
Part 1: evaluation of your group's performance
Critically evaluate your group's performance. You may focus on just a few (or all) of the following thought questions:
- How do you feel about your group's performance at SLOrktastic? In what areas was it successful/ unsuccessful?
- Were there any "surprises" during the performance that you did not anticipate during rehearsals? If so, how did you deal with these surprises on the spot?
- What was the most challenging part in preparing for the concert with your group?
- If given another change to perform again with your group at a similar setting, what would you do differently?
- If you'd like, acknowledge any individual in your group that you think went above and beyond in preparing for the concert.
Part 2: evaluation of the concert
Critically reflect on the quality of the concert as a whole. You may write this part in the form of a concert review (from an audience perspective), or write up first-person reflections (similar to what you did for Part 1).
The following questions should help you get started:
- Was the concert what you anticipated? If not, how did it differ from your expectations?
- How was the overall quality of presentation? Do you think the class came across as being "professional"? Why or why not?
- What was your favorite piece (other than your own)? ;) What was especially attractive about this piece?
- Do you think that the works presented in the concert were diverse in terms of musical aesthetics and interaction designs? If not, what more do you wish you had seen/ heard?
- What was your least favorite part about the concert (musically, or otherwise)?
- Did the audience seem engaged? What elements of performance do you think encourage/ motivate them to be more engaged?
