CCRMA Rooms

Here is a list of the most important rooms within CCRMA’s building The Knoll, floor by floor from West to East (which is almost numerically by room number). Some can be reserved.

First Floor

• 102/103: Neuromusic Lab
• 106: Studio J (acoustics measurement)
• 107: Studio C / VR Lab
• 109/110: First floor restrooms (all-gender)
• 112: Museum
• 116: Lobby
• 124: Recording Studio
• 127: Control Room of Recording Studio
• 128: Listening Room

Second Floor

• 201: Max Lab: Maker space for physical computing and musical instrument design. (The Garage is its own building but functionally part of the Max Lab.)
• 203/204: Second floor restrooms (all-gender)
• 223: The Adapter Closet
• 206: Nando’s office
• 207: PhD Student work area and second sysadmin’s office
• 211: Grand Central Station, work area for most CCRMA staff
• 212: Ge Wang’s office
• 213: The Gear Closet
• 216: Ballroom, open workspace full of CCRMA Linux Workstations
• 217: CCRMA Classroom
• 220: Storage closet behind the classroom
• 221: Studio D

Third Floor

• 301: Chris Chafe’s and Takako Fujioka’s office
• 303: Jonathan Berger’s office
• 305: Grad Student and Visiting Scholar and Jonathan Abel work area
• 306: Julius Smith’s Office / Lab
• 307: Third floor women’s restroom
• 308: Third floor men’s restroom
• 312: Patio: outdoor seating overlooking the Courtyard
• 313: Lounge
• 314: Kitchenette
• 315: Seminar Room
• 317: CCRMA Stage
• 319: Third floor restroom (all-gender)
• 320: Studio E

Labs

Certain rooms at CCRMA are considered advanced research laboratories under the responsibility of specific faculty:

• Acoustics Lab aka Studio J (106): Matt Wright, Chris Chafe, Julius Smith
• Listening Room (128): Fernando Lopez-Lezcano
• Max Lab (201): Matt Wright, and in certain quarters also Sasha Leitman
• Neuromusic Lab (102/103): Takako Fujioka
• Recording Studio and Control Room aka Studios A and B (124/127, with a written access policy): Hassan Estakhrian
• Studios D and E (221/320): Matt Wright
• VR Lab aka VR/AR/MR lab aka Reality Room aka Studio C (107): Ge Wang
• Stage (317): Fernando Lopez-Lezcano, Constantin Basica, Matt Wright

At least one university architect once believed The Knoll has a total of 19418 square feet.
